The longest bridal train in the world: Record-breaking wedding dress stretches over TWO MILES of Italian church steps

Brides seeking a showstopping dress to ensure all eyes are on them for their big day need look no further.

This incredible silk and tulle concoction, designed by Gianni Molaro, boasts a record-breaking train measuring almost two miles in length.

It was modelled today on the steps of Rome's Trinita dei Monti in Italy to celebrate the opening of Molaro's new workshop, the sheer white material rippling out over the Renaissance stonework to complete the fairytale effect.

Tourists snapped away as three spectacular looking brides posed on the Spanish Steps in front of the Fountain of Four Rivers.

The incredible cream veil was worn by Elena De Angelis for her wedding in the Naples village of Casal di Princice last September.

 

Her train - which was around 28 times the length of Manchester United's Old Trafford pitch - was carried by an army of volunteers as Miss De Angelis was driven through the streets in a vintage car.

Around 20,000 people attended her wedding to Ferdinand Pucci last year to see the outfit that took dozens of seamstresses months to make.

Made from 1.86-mile (three kilometres) of tulle bordered by six miles of silk, the endless train is apparently tied for the title of world's longest with a design by Andree Salon for this year's Wedding Fair in Bucharest.

A model wearing the silk and lace gown took to the sky in a hot-air balloon in March, allowing the gargantuan train to billow out over the Romanian capital.

Mr Molaro said of his creation last year: 'I was really grateful to be asked to design this veil. I met tens of thousands of people on the way to the church who complimented my idea.

'I wanted this veil to symbolise peace and hope and I think we have achieved this.

'This has been one of the biggest moments in my career as a designer.'

There would be no making a dash for it at the altar in this supersized outfit.

Experts estimate it would take Usain Bolt almost five minutes to run its full length, running at blistering world recording pace.

The monumental walls and bristling crenellation of Palazzo dei Priori mark it as Umbria's finest public building. The facade is decorated with symbols of Perugia's past power: the griffin is the city's symbol and the lyon denotes Perugia's allegiance to the medieval Guelph (papal) cause. Among its finely decorated rooms is the Sala dei Notari (1295), originally an assembly hall for the people of Perugia, which is frescoed with scenes from the Old Testament by Pietro Cavallini.

More Britons going abroad to get married

LONDON (Reuters Life!) - Prince William and Kate Middleton may have decided on a traditional British wedding but nearly a fifth of their compatriots prefer to get married abroad, according to new research.

A study by consumer research group Mintel showed on Tuesday that 18 percent of Britons chose to tie the knot abroad last year, a rise in the number of such marriages of 27 percent between 2005 and 2010.

The rise has taken place at a time when overseas travel is cheaper and as the number of weddings at home continues to fall as the price for getting married in Britain remains substantially higher than elsewhere.

An estimated 266,000 UK weddings took place in 2010 marking a 7 percent drop over the five years since 2005. In 2010, the average wedding abroad cost 6,585 pounds ($10,580), while the average British wedding costs just below 20,000 pounds.

"The lower costs of overseas weddings are an important factor for many, with cost concerns influencing the whole market," said Mintel Senior Travel and Tourism Analyst Tom Rees.

"However the various desires to do something different, seek out better weather than can be expected in the UK and to avoid overblown, too-many-guest affairs are attracting more and more couples to the weddings abroad market."

Unfortunately, for the unlucky few the day doesn’t always go according to plan, as Welsh couple discovered recently when a family scrap broke out at their Port Talbot reception.

From sinking brides to the truly tragic we look at the top 10 worst weddings. Bridezillas beware….

1. Wet wedding
Both the bride and the vicar end up in the swimming pool after a clumsy best man loses his footing.

2. Hurricane Wedding
Barbara and Doug Rozenboom planned their wedding for nine months- perfecting every detail but they scheduled it late in the summer of 1996, just as Hurricane Fran hit the Carolinas, causing floods, massive power failures and at least 26 deaths.

3. Wedding Earthquake
A couple watched the church they were getting married in crumble around them as the Sichuan earthquake hit China.
Considered the strongest and deadliest earthquake to hit since 1976 it killed and injured thousands.
Luckily the 33 attendees and bride and groom were not inside the church at the time but the wedding photographer managed to catch these shocking snaps.

4. Lost Wedding
Despite spending £4,000 on a Caribbean wedding, Mike Goodhall and Heidi Loader were unable to prove that they were legally married because of a spelling mistake on the marriage certificate.
A clerk in the Dominican Republic, where the couple were married on a beach, spelt Mr Goodhall’s surname with an “e” instead of the first “l”. The couple returned the certificate to travel company Thomas Cook to be amended but they lost the information meaning Ms Loader was unable to get a passport or credit card in her married name.

5. The Versailles wedding hall
In one of the worst civil disasters in Israel’s history, Keren and Asaf Drors' wedding was bought to a tragic end when the third floor of the four-story Versailles Hall collapsed as revellers danced on it. Bride and groom survived but 23 people died and approximately 380 were injured.

6. Heartbreaking
It was a wedding day to remember... for all the wrong reasons.
Brian Ashton and Sarah Ward had their wedding plans brought to a tragic end when the white limo carrying the groom and his mother crashed yards from the church causing the groom's mum Maureen to have a heart attack.

7. Caribbean Chaos
A couple's Caribbean dream wedding turned into disaster after they discovered they may not actually be married. Clare George and John Bevan spent more than £6,000 flying their family to Jamaica for their big day.But troubles arose when they arrived to find nothing prepared for them. Despite organising it all last minute once back home, doubts were rasied as to whether the Valentine's Day ceremony was legally binding as no documentation was ever received.The couple's travel agent is investigating.

8.Cake Catastrophe
A slightly clumsy bride tries to have her cake and eat it…unsuccessfully.

9. Best Man Blunders
The pressure of being a best man can get to some people as this poor guy proves.

10. Runaway Groom
All brides fear being left at the altar and that's exactly what happened to Lilibeth Gaviola when college sweetheart Ryan Sesante left her humiliated in front of friends and family and ran off with another woman just as he was about to say "I do". Lilibeth got her deserved revenge suing Ryan claiming moral damages of £26,500.
